How to find untapped keywords your competitors already rank for
A practical walkthrough using free tools to identify keyword gaps and write content that fills them.
Most keyword research starts with your own head. That's a mistake. Your competitors already spent thousands on SEO—let their data do the work.
Start by listing 3-5 direct competitors. Drop their domains into a keyword gap tool (like the one in Craft's library). You'll get a set of terms they rank for that you don't. Focus on terms with decent volume but low competition—these are the low-hanging fruit.
For each gap keyword, ask: can I write something more useful than what's currently ranking? If yes, write it. If no, move on. I've used this method to find 47 untapped terms for my own site. The result: 34% traffic increase in 4 weeks. No magic, just data.
